I spent some time with my better half and some friend this long weekend at a trout fishing destination called Trout Hideaway about 20km outside Pilgrims Rest with stunning views and crystal clear dams and rivers.
The days were warm so the fishing was very slow and we only managed to get a couple of Rainbow Trout and one Brown Trout on the first day after we figured out that they were laying very deep and only took flies passing by very slowly.
The second day was another hot day and we very quickly went back to the fast sinking lines with dark coloured lures retrieving them very slowly. We decided to take the canoes out to find some deeper water which produced some good fish. I managed to catch a one eyed fish twice from the same spot about an hour after I released it the first time which I think is very uncommon.
The last morning was allot colder than the days before and we tried some different colours and faster retrieving, I managed to catch a Golden trout which is not very common in South African Dams.
The total Fish for the weekend was 1 Brown Trout, 13 Rainbow Trout and 1 Golden Trout.
The biggest fish pulled the scale at 3.5kg and was caught by my girlfriend Jessica
